Can you engrave stainless steel?

Yes. Stainless steel is the metal we engrave most, on a 60W MOPA fibre laser, with black, frosted white, deep or colour marks.

Can you engrave stainless steel black?

Yes. Our MOPA fibre laser produces a deep black annealing mark on stainless steel. It is smooth to the touch, does not remove material and holds up well to washing and handling.

Is engraved stainless steel dishwasher safe?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Black annealing marks and deep engraving are dishwasher tolerant, which is why they are used on catering and kitchen equipment.

Can you engrave knives and multitools?

Yes. Blades, handles and multitools engrave very well in black or deep engraving, ideal for names, logos and groomsmen gifts. Bring the item or send a photo first.

How do you darken engraving on stainless steel?

With a fibre laser there is nothing to fill in: black annealing turns the steel itself black. On older hand-engraved pieces we can re-engrave a darker laser mark over or beside the original.

How deep can you engrave into stainless steel?

Accepted Answer

Depth depends on the size of the artwork and time on the machine. Typical deep engraving is a few tenths of a millimetre, enough to feel with a fingernail. We quote depth per job.

Can you engrave curved stainless steel?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Cylindrical items like tumblers, flasks and bottles go on the rotary axis. Gently curved items such as watch backs and bracelets can usually be engraved flat within the focus range.

Can you engrave a photo on stainless steel?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Photos are converted to a fine dot pattern and engraved as a black or grey image. Clear, well-lit photos with good contrast give the best result. We send a proof first.

Can I post my item to you for engraving?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Post it to our Dublin 12 studio with a note of what you would like engraved, and we return it by courier anywhere in Ireland once it is done.
