Question 1

Can you engrave through powder coat?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The fibre laser removes the powder coat in the shape of your design and reveals the bright metal underneath, without damaging the surrounding finish.

Question 2

Will the engraving rust on painted steel?

Accepted Answer

Bare mild steel exposed by engraving can tarnish outdoors over time. For outdoor steel we recommend a clear lacquer over the engraved area, or a stainless or aluminium base.

Question 3

Can you engrave my letterbox or gate plate?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if the engraving area can sit flat under the laser and fits within 300 x 300mm. Bring it to us, or send a photo and the measurements first.

Question 4

Can a CO2 laser engrave metal?

Accepted Answer

Only coated metal. A CO2 laser can remove paint or anodising, but it cannot mark bare steel, brass or copper. That is why we use a fibre laser for metal, which handles both coated and bare metal.

Question 5

Do you engrave vinyl-wrapped or PVC-coated items?

Accepted Answer

No. We never laser PVC, vinyl or chlorine-based coatings because they give off harmful gas. Powder coat, paint and enamel are all fine.

Question 6

Can you engrave enamel camping mugs?

Accepted Answer

Yes, after a quick test. Vitreous enamel engraves to the steel underneath, but very thick enamel can chip at the edges, so we check your mug first.
